Who are we?
The River... why would anyone name a church "The River"? I am so glad you
asked. A river is a place of refreshing
- where your thirst is satisfied. It is also a place of renewal
- after a long hike on a dusty trail there is nothing like a plunge into the
cool waters of the river. It is a place for relationships
- to gather with friends and family for food and fun. Our mission is for The
River to be - a place of refreshing, renewal and relationships.
Three streams - one river:
Rivers are formed as streams come together and form a larger body of water. The
River is a church born from three streams that converge in one place. The first
stream is that of Word - we
believe that God's Word is the foundation and food for our faith. We have a
deep love for Scripture and a hunger to be shaped by it into the image of
Christ. The second stream is Sacrament
- we are part of the Anglican Mission in America (AMiA), which is in full
connection to the Worldwide Anglican Communion, an ancient church carrying an
eternal hope. [ Read more about the AMiA ]
We believe that Christ is Immanuel - God with us - that worship is a real
encounter with Christ. One encounters the real presence of Christ through the
Sacraments (Baptism and Holy Eucharist) as they are a means of grace.
Therefore, we gather to meet with the risen Lord and celebrate His grace
through praise, prayers, preaching and participation in Holy Eucharist (Holy
Communion). The third stream is Spirit
- we believe that all believers are indwelt by the Holy Spirit and gifted in
order to build the church and spread the gospel. Thus, as we gather we
anticipate God will work both in and through each of us by the power of the
Holy Spirit. In church history some have majored on one or two of these
streams, but we desire to see each of these streams converge and form The
River. [ View our Statement of Faith ]
Come test the waters!
It is our prayer that if you are looking for a place of refreshing, renewal and
relationship - a church committed to Word, Sacrament and Spirit - you will come
and test the water at The River. We are currently meeting at Kipps Elementary
School, 2801 Prices Fork Road, in Blacksburg, VA - 10 AM
Sunday Mornings.
